Before we get into how to structure the blog effectively using SEO keywords, let us first answer the top 3 questions in our heads.
What is SEO?
Search engine optimization is the process of improving the quality and quantity of website traffic to a website or a web page from search engines
What are SEO Keywords?
SEO keywords are the keywords and phrases in your web/blog content that make it possible for people to find your site via search engines.
Why SEO is important for your blog?
The search engine gets completely bombarded with blogs being published every day. It wants to display the search results only that are relevant to the query.
The ultimate aim of the blogger is to drive traffic organically to his/her blog.
You need to persuade Google to display your blog in the search results by optimizing your blog with the right keywords.
Now comes the final questions, how do you structure your blog?
- Plan your content with proper keyword research - Keyword research is a technique used by content creators and SEO experts. It helps you discover topics your users are interested in based on the search engine data. Learn How to do Keyword Research in 2020 -The Ultimate Guide.
- Arrive at your focus keywords - Your primary keyword is the main focus of the entire article. You can’t really write a good piece of content about 2 separate topics, so only one primary keyword should be used. Secondary keywords are complementary keywords to the primary one, but just slight variations. Additional keywords are just any other related keywords that are phrased or spelt differently than the first two but mean the same thing.
- Come up with a perfect keyword optimised blog title - An optimized title is important for SEO because it gives Search Engines a big hint on what the page is about.
- It has a character length between 55-60 so that it is shown without breaks in the SERPS.
- It includes your target primary keyword (but not keyword-stuffed)
- It accurately describes the content of the blog post
- Optimise your Blog URL - Use “-“ to separate the words that make up a URL. If this is not the case for your blog and you are on WordPress, you need to change your permalink structure. For example https://how-to-become-an-affiliate-marketer.com
- Meta description - Meta descriptions are the short descriptions of 160 characters to advertise content to searchers and let them know exactly what the given page has concerning what they are looking for. Keywords presence in it will encourage the user to take the action since the keywords will be bolded.
- Introductory sentence & Concluding paragraph - Many experts believe that Google gives more weight to the first 200 words in your content. The reason why is because usually, the first 100-200 words of an article are where a content writer sets up the introduction of what will be discussed. Similar to that, include keywords in the conclusion (or last 200 words).
- Use headings in a hierarchical model - Use headings in a hierarchical mode: The title of the post is the h1 tag and then the main sections should have an h2 and the subsections an h3. So, the order of the tags should be H1->H2->H3. And make sure you make use of Keywords in these in a natural way. For example, let us assume you are writing a blog about how to become a digital marketer. Digital marketer is your keyword, then
- “How to become a digital marketer?” is your H1.
- “10 skills you need to become a digital marketer” is your H2
- “Be proficient in all social media platforms”, “Learn about E-mail marketing” etc.… are your H3
- Optimize your images with Image alt text - Blog posts shouldn't only contain text — they should also include images that help explain and support your content. However, search engines don't simply look for images. Rather, they look for images with image alt text. Whenever you upload a photo to your blog, be sure to include keywords in the file name and fill out the alternate text field with a brief, keyword-rich description of the photo.
Note - Don’t engage in keyword stuffing. In other words, don’t add keywords in the text for the sake of doing so but do it only when it’s natural to read. Not only will this irritate your blog followers, but it will also get you penalized by Google. A couple of strategically placed keywords will do the trick.
So yes. That is it. Follow the above 8 tips to structure your blog effectively with the right SEO keywords.
